Rowland for Supervisor

I am a lifelong resident of Fayette County.  I grew up in Wadena, the daughter of Robert and Betty Bond.  My father operated a bulldozer and worked for Fayette County for several years after serving in WWII.  My mother now lives in Oelwein,

I graduated from Valley High School of Clermont, Elgin and Wadena and got my teaching and library science degree at Upper Iowa University in Fayette.

I was fortunate to be hired at North Fayette in West Union.  There I taught ninth grade Language Arts for 33 years.  In addition, I taught seventh graders, seniors, and was part-time high school librarian.  After school I directed plays, costumed musicals, and organized state speech contests. 

I also developed a School to Work program for the district to make school more relevant for students, and students better prepared to transition to the world of work.  I established a network of professional relationships throughout the state during the course of the STW program.  It was here that I developed skills for grant writing.

It was a difficult decision to take early retirement from teaching.  I loved what I was doing.  Two months after I retired, I was asked to run for Fayette County Supervisor.  I decided to accept this surprising turn of events in my life.  I have enjoyed this chapter in my life, continuing to work with many of my former students and their parents. Now I am seeking re-election for a second term.

I have been married to my husband Everett for 39 years. We live in Clermont. Everett works part time for the USDA as a NASDA Field Rep. We have two children. Our daughter Angelisa is married to Westgate native, Mike Belden, and they live in Minneapolis.  Our son Brandon has already won many education awards in his short time as a teacher in St. Louis.  I must not forget our beloved little dog Mandy who really runs the show around our home.

I like to laugh and have fun. I enjoy being around people.  My hobbies include traveling, volunteering in various community causes such as Heritage Farm Park and Clermont Community Club.   I am on the Clermont Historical Commission, a member of Tre Ore Study Club, Clermont B&P, and West Union Rotary.  I am been actively involved in my church, West Clermont Lutheran, and currently sing in choir and give children’s sermons.  I especially enjoy the Elgin Library book club. I like a good cup of coffee while reading the paper.
